TO CREATE IS TO CONNECT
Creativity has a quiet way of finding its people. It will rarely announce itself, but simply shows up. And when it does, connections are bound to happen. That’s what we hope to bring forward at Gunita Studios; work that doesn’t just exist, but connects, lingers, and resonates.
Gunita Studio started with two people trying to figure out our place in the world. Mikayla, from Philadelphia, and I, from Manila, came together from different parts of the world. We met via Instagram (lol), and met with no expectations… just a hope for a cute new friend. Eventually, conversations that started small and grew into something bigger. Friendship followed naturally, built on shared curiosity and a love of creating. It felt effortless, but it wasn’t accidental. Creativity brought us together, and that’s exactly how we want it to work for the people we collaborate with.
Working with clients at Gunita Studios is always a personal experience. That is because creativity is honest; it asks for a piece of you. And when you put yourself into something authentic, it resonates. It reaches someone else, somewhere, somehow. The projects we work on become opportunities for collaboration, connection, and understanding. And that’s what makes them matter.
The very essence of connection inspired even our name. ‘Gunita’ carries this idea in itself. In Tagalog, it means recollection, memory, or reminiscence. It’s the kind of memory that endures—the warmth of something cherished, the kind of moment you return to in your mind. We named our studio this way because we hope our work carries the same weight: to resonate, to stick, and to connect people.
Every project we take on is a chance to create something that matters. Whether it’s a brand, a website, or a social campaign, we start by listening. We want to understand not just what someone wants to make, but why. Because creativity, at its best, is a conversation. It grows richer when it’s shared, when it responds to someone else, when it carves out room for connection.
And that’s the thing about our practice – it’s universal. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what form it takes. A design, a photograph, a simple idea can reach across cities and cultures, touching people in ways you didn’t expect. It is personal to an individual, yet capable of connecting everyone. That’s the magic we chase. Creativity, as not merely our profession, but a means for how we connect, how we remember, how we share. And isn’t that quite special?
